Sail Cape Cod is pleased to announce the appointment of Jim Hoar of Yarmouthport as its new Program Director. Hoar helped establish the successful Yarmouth Recreation Sailing Program in 1982 and was its longtime Program Director of 33 years. A retired Special Education teacher at Dennis-Yarmouth High School, Hoar remains the longstanding D-Y Girls Track Coach during the school year.
"We are fortunate to have someone with Coach Hoar’s extensive background as a well-respected sailing director, coach and educator become available at a time when we were searching for a new Program Director” according to Sail Cape Cod’s President Mike Trovato. "His experience makes him a great fit for Sail Cape Cod, especially our outreach programs for disadvantaged youth and those with physical or intellectual challenges. Under Coach’s stewardship, we look forward to taking Sail Cape Cod to new heights as a true community asset.”
"I am very excited to be joining Sail Cape Cod at this stage of the program’s development, and welcome the challenge of helping it realize its full potential” said Hoar. "I am especially inspired by its mission of serving the disadvantaged and the underserved through sailing, and look to share my experience and passion for sailing in continued service to the community.”
In addition to traditional learn-to-sail programs, Sail Cape Cod partners with local organizations serving disadvantaged youth and individuals with disabilities in providing greater access to the therapeutic and recreational benefits of sailing.
