Sail Cape Cod names first Executive Director

On January 1st of 2018, Josh Richards of Yarmouth was appointed as Sail Cape Cod's first Executive Director to develop, manage and lead the organization towards its next horizon.

Born and raised on the Cape, Josh brings a true Cape Codder's mindset, and a track record of steadfast commitment to developing opportunities for every individual here on Cape Cod. This commitment is perhaps best exemplified in his professional and volunteer work with local Young Professionals, disability community, and the Cape's underserved Youth populations. Josh currently volunteers with various other community service entities including: serving on the Board of Directors at the Community Leadership Institute, serving on Cape Cod Tech's Advisory Board, and working as a member of Cape Cod Young Professionals and its Organizing Committee for the annual Shape the Cape Summit. He also maintains a membership with various local Chambers and other advisory and advocacy groups here on Cape Cod.

Since 2012 Sail Cape Cod has worked to provide 'Access to all without Limitation' as a 501c3, non-profit Community Sailing Organization affiliated with US Sailing. Over the course of its six-year history, Sail Cape Cod has developed the SeaLegs Adaptive Sailing Program, the Cape's only adaptive sailing program, which helps all individuals gain access to sailing, regardless of their physical ability. Additionally, Sail Cape Cod offers Community Learn to Sail Programs, providing the opportunity for all Cape Codders and visitors to gain the skills and confidence needed, to successfully sail on local waters. Lastly, in its effort to utilize sailing as a tool of empowerment, Sail Cape Cod offers a Community Outreach Program, which works with community partners such as: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Cape Abilities, Barnstable Senior Center and Community Connections.

"As we move into the 2018 season, I look forward to working with our Board of Directors, Staff, Volunteers, and Community Partners in continuing the great success Sail Cape Cod has demonstrated over the past six years. Something as quintessential to Cape Cod as sailing should, in the most authentic way possible, be used as a tool to strengthen our common bonds as a community, and to empower us all as individuals. This has been my life experience, and I wish to share it with all who live on and visit the Cape.' - Josh Richards, Executive Director at Sail Cape Cod."
